Answers to common questions regarding our curriculum, policies, and student life.
For all of the courses at the academy, the lessons, assignments, testing and grading are done by the teaching staff at the academy.
As parents, there are three primary requirements for the days at home:
- Study Space: Providing a good space at home for the Mo/We/Fr time periods when students should be doing a decent amount of work each day.
- Disciplinary Support: Supporting the administration with potential discipline issues. Since time in the building is limited, traditional school discipline options like detention do not make much sense and so we need the parents to be able to back up the administration in helping with potential disciplinary situations.
- Academic Completion: The academy should be viewed as a support to the education you want to provide your child. You can and are encouraged to align the possible offerings at the academy with opportunities that would be most beneficial to your family and child. Please view our page regarding your role as the primary educator.
On academy days, we welcome parents, siblings and family to attend the noon Mass whenever feasible. The narthex at Christ the King is a wonderful gathering place—perfect for stealing a quick hug from your student and enjoying a moment of fellowship with other families before you head back to your day. For those with a long drive, consider arranging some weekly errands between the end of mass and school pickup.
The deposit is collected as a way to improve the overall experience and management of the building. The main reasons for the deposit follow:
- Parental Transparency: Without deposits, it is very difficult to let other parents know who will be attending.
- Management: Deposits give us confidence in knowing whether we need to add additional teaching staff or courses.
If you are considering attending, it is better to make the deposit with your conditions than to wait and see what others decide. Make Your Deposit
The deposit will be refunded if we end up being unable to meet certain conditions that you can provide to us along with your deposit.
For example,
- We would love our daughter to attend, but she wants at least a couple of girls in her classes.
- Our son is ready for physics and we would need that taught at the academy.
If you are unsure about whether your conditions will be refundable, let us know using one of the contact options prior to placing the deposit and we will confirm if your conditions are refundable.
Our electronics stay in the office all day and if a parent needs to contact their child they need to call or text administration. This will even include the graphing calculators when not in an appropriate class.
We will have additional adults on campus during the free time periods of Lunch & Recess to ensure that the students are always supervised and that campus remains a positive environment for all.
Study halls will be proctored by administration. Administration will help make sure the students have appropriate study skills, self discipline and address any other possible executive functioning needs.
Yes, for all of the courses taken through the academy, a simple transcript will be available to the student & parent to make the process of putting together a full high school transcript as simple as possible. A sample transcript can be found in our information about supporting parents as primary educators.
Not all students can or want to take a full schedule with us and to homeschool.
The three most common reasons:
- Older students to take some community college courses but still be able to spend time with their friends on campus.
- Entering students to take a light schedule to be introduced to the difficulty of meeting deadlines and a college prep level schedule.
- Some alternative advanced skill development requires the afternoon timeslot.
The morning/afternoon options are examples and we work with families on additional flexibility.
Our vision for the academy is to separate the sexes throughout the day as much as possible.

Shadowing is offered only after a standard visit has occurred. It is important for the family to have the necessary information for expectations regarding the operations of the academy.
Many times a shadow day is unnecessary following the standard tour. More details on visiting can be found at our Visits Information page.
For shadowing, we recommend a morning visit with pickup either before or after the noon mass.
The reasons behind suggesting a half day are:
- Sitting in on the classrooms will be pretty uneventful and on any given day at least one of the rooms will be testing.
- Without the desire to get a good grade in the course, the content beyond 10-15 minutes can become quite boring.
- Friendships take time to develop and the other students that have shadowed in the past without friends already in the building had unrealistic expectations for social interaction on their shadow day.
- It places a burden and responsibility on the student here in the building.
