You Are In Charge
One of the most important aspects of directing your child’s education is that you ultimately get to choose what their education should consist of.
Whether you have been homeschooling or are coming from a traditional school setting, the Academy exists to partner with you—not to replace your role.
The FAQ talks more about the day to day support needed in the home for the blended environment to be successful.
Missouri/Kansas Compliance Guide
Laws vary by state. Follow these guidelines to stay compliant while enrolled.
St Athanasius & St Catherine's Academy is a compliant registered private nonprofit education organization and could be used without any home supplement. However, choosing to use the academy as a supplement provides you with additional flexibility to meet the needs of whatever is next in life for your child.
Missouri
- The Academy transcript and class time help meet MO state hour requirements (1,000 hours/year).
- Accurate records of classes taken here will be easy to add to your portfolio.
Kansas
- Register as a private school if you haven't homeschooled in KS before.
- When speaking to officials, always say your child is in private school.
Sample Transcript
Depending on your choices, the transcript from the academy could be all you need or it could be supplemented by additional education from the home.
College & University Prep
If your child plans to attend college, check specific "homeschooled student" requirements early.
Example: Benedictine
According to their FAQ, they require a grade of ‘C’ or better in the following units:
Example: UMKC
Homeschool applicants are evaluated individually. UMKC requires a homeschool transcript, and while test scores are optional for general admission, they are recommended for scholarship placement.
Suggested High School Curriculum
The Kolbe Academy standards for a rigorous classical education are shown below. If you are less certain about what is next for you child, then having a plan to accumulate these "credits" will make your child eligible for nearly any higher education of your choosing.
Remember that many activities that you choose for your child outside of the academy could be a part of your child's high school transcript.
